Who We Are

Organized for Small Credit Unions, by Small Credit Unions

The National Small Credit Union Association (NSCUA) is a national trade association dedicated to supporting and strengthening small credit unions across the United States. NSCUA exists to ensure that smaller institutions have the resources, guidance, and collaborative support necessary to thrive and continue serving their members and communities.

Credit unions were founded on a simple but powerful idea: that ordinary people, by pooling their resources together, could better serve one another than traditional banks ever could. Small credit unions remain the closest reflection of that original cooperative mission. NSCUA exists to bring these institutions together, strengthen their collective voice, and help ensure they not only survive, but continue serving their members and communities for generations to come.

NSCUA was founded in April 2026 by Joshua C. Urbick, who serves as President and CEO of NSCUA and as CEO of IBEW 26 Federal Credit Union in Lanham, Maryland. Mianna Chernek serves as SVP and Chief Strategy Officer, leading organizational strategy and vendor partnerships. The association is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and is open to all credit unions primarily under $500 million in assets.
